Grantmaking

In 2008, over $94,000 was authorized by the Community Foundation's Board of Directors to provide 40 grants to charitable organizations in Mercer and Tazewell Counties, and scholarships were awarded to 32 deserving area students.

With the 2008 awards and the Foundation’s twelfth grant cycle, nearly $500,000 has been returned to our area since the first grant cycle in 1997 through grants and scholarships.

The Grants Committee is composed of twelve members, and is chaired by Foundation President Bob Perkinson. The Committee is charged with the responsibility of evaluating all grant requests and to the best of its ability, allocate the funds according to need.

The nine-member Scholarship Committee is chaired by Carol Dodson, and has the responsibility to evaluate all applications for scholarship assistance, allocating funds to those students most deserving.
