The Princeton Senior High School Band Boosters utilized a $2,000 grant from the Community Foundation to help fund the second annual "Southern Thunder" marching band contest.
The event began mid-morning on
Saturday, October 9, and lasted well into the night, culminating with an
exhibition by the Princeton Senior High School Band just before the awards
ceremony that recognized the winners of 35 awards in eight major categories and
in three categories of band awards in the four classes of performing
bands.
Bands and auxiliary groups were adjudicated by a panel of six professional judges consisting of band directors from other states, university professors and professional judges.
The event drew 14 high school bands from West Virginia and Virginia schools performing their 2010 competition show, along with their fans, as well as local folks who turned out to watch the contest.
Each band's performance as well as the awards ceremony was photographed and videographed, and concessions and souvenir shirts were available for purchase.
The Community Foundation is proud to have participated in helping the PSHS Band Boosters with this project in both its inaugural and second contests.
