Grants and Scholarships
In its 15 years of grant making the Community Foundation has distributed more than $770,000 in grants to worthwhile community organizations and projects, and scholarships to deserving students.

Grantmaking

The Community Foundation of the Virginias, Inc. is pleased to announce the award of 33 grants for 2011. These awards totaling $50,094.86 represent the Foundation’s 15th annual grant cycle supporting local nonprofit groups. A total of $71,098.84 was requested from the Foundation. With the inclusion of the 2011 awards, the Foundation has returned approximately $774,114 to the area since 1997 in grants and scholarships.
The Grants Committee is chaired by Robert Perkinson and comprised of ten members this year, including: Mary Azzo, Rich Bezjak, Phyllis Beaver-Horwitz, Kathleen Blaydes, Carole Dodson, Darryl Hudson, Doris Sue Kantor, Susan Cooper-Snyder, Bettye VanDyke and Pat Whittaker.
Information for Grant Seekers
The Foundation accepts Grant applications from April through June each year.
The Community Foundation of the Virginias, Inc., awards discretionary and field-of-interest grants to charitable organizations for Education, The Arts, Culture and the Humanities, Health, Human Services, primarily in the Mercer County, WV and Tazewell County, VA areas.

Scholarships
The nine-member Scholarship Committee is chaired by Carol Dodson, and has the responsibility to evaluate applications for scholarship assistance, allocating funds to the most deserving students.
Information for Scholarship Seekers
The Foundation accepts Scholarship applications from January through March each year.
Applications for most scholarships are available from counselors at area high schools, or you can click here to access the online information.
Applicants are encouraged to carefully read the Information documents and Applications to be certain that they meet the requirements of the various scholarships.
