The
Tazewell-based Mother of Christ Julinoel (MOCJ) used a $1,000 grant from the
Community Foundation of the Virginias, Inc., to upgrade it residence facility
with the purchase and installation of beds, mattresses and lamps for bedrooms,
and tables and chairs for the dining room.
MOJC's mission is "to contribute to the wellbeing of humanity by continuing Jesus' ministry of service to persons with disabilities, the homeless, frail elderly, and by reducing poverty and injustice among economically disadvantaged persons through empowering programmatic action."
The
Tazewell adult assisted living and residential facility has been open since late
December of 2006.
According to the MOJC Web site, "the scope of care and service of MOCJ includes
adult men and women suffering from mental sickness controlled and stabilized by
medication, mentally retarded, developmentally disabled, persons suffering from
dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, bipolar, and those with various forms of physical
disabilities - including visual and communication. MOCJ provides 24 hours, 7
days a week service, monitoring and answering call bell system, and regularly
checking on the safety of bed-ridden, wheel chair-bound, and paying closer
attention to residents with incontinence."
MOCJ utilizes both a paid staff and volunteers who are trained according to applicable laws controlling the types of assistance provided to the residents
Its CEO and President, Dr. Joseph Ekweariri, expressed his appreciation to the Foundation for its assistance in making the facility a success for the many residents who call the MOCH home.
