Grants Committee Wrapping Up Work for 2010 Cycle
The
Foundation's Grants Committee has just about completed its work evaluating the
more than 40 applications for funding in the 2010 Grants Cycle.
The Committee's recommendations will be presented to the Foundation's Board of Directors at its' quarterly meeting on September 7, and after action by the Board, applicants whose projects were approved for funding will be notified.
This is the Foundation's 14th Annual Grants Cycle, and once grants are approved will push the total amount of awards through grants and scholarships to more than $660,000.

The Grants Committee is chaired by Robert Perkinson, who along with members Kathleen Blaydes, Carole Dodson, Phyllis Beaver-Horwitz, Doris Sue Kantor, Susan Cooper-Snyder, and Pat Whittaker, worked through July and August evaluating and selecting the successful applicants for this year's awards.
Each year, the Foundation receives requests for far more funding than it has available, and this year was no exception, with requests totaling more than $85,300. This year, only approximately $45,000 can be awarded , which will fulfill only 53 percent of the requested funding, and many worthwhile projects in the areas of Human Services, Health, Education and Arts and Humanities cannot be funded.
Donations to the Community Foundation or to one of its 30 individual grant funds will increase the Foundation's ability to meet the needs of Mercer and Tazewell county's non-profit organizations.
Contributions may be made to honor someone, in someone's memory, or just as a straight tax deductible contribution to the Foundation.
It is also possible to leave a legacy contribution to the Foundation through a provision in your will, and such contributions may include publicly traded stocks and bonds, cash, or real estate.
