Foundation Grant Helps Fund Brushfork Elementary School

A grant from the Community Foundation of the Virginias, Inc. in the amount of $1,800 helped Brushfork Elementary upgrade its Library/Media Center through the purchase of new tables and chairs.
"We are very proud of our school and the students, parents and community that we serve," said Principle J. Bryan Staten. "Our Library/Media Center serves as a library, computer lab and meeting center for the staff, students, parent involvement sessions and LSIC meetings. We are trying to upgrade our library to make it a more user friendly place to enhance the reading skills, as well as the computer skills of our students and parents," he said.
"The students and school staff are so proud of these improvements in our Media Center and it is a pleasure to meet and learn in such a nice environment," said DeDe Radspinner, Library/Media Teacher at Brushfork.

Brushfork Elementary has a faculty of 16 full-time teachers, two instructional aides and 210 students in grades K through 5.
Other funding for the $7,000 project came from school funds, the Board of Education matching funds and a private donation. This latest improvement is part of a three-year project to upgrade the Media Center to make it ready for 21st century learning.
Previous improvements include an automated card catalog/circulation system, and the purchase of Accelerated Reader quizzes funded in part by two Dollar General Youth Literacy Grants.
These improvements help the faculty and staff live up to the school's mission statement, "At Brushfork, All Children Can Learn."
